Germany, Third Reich. A Medal Bar for First World War and Red Cross Service

(Ordensschnalle). A medal bar to a recipient with lengthy non-combatant service featuring two awards, including:

1. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Non-Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked with the logo of an unidentified and scarcely-encountered manufacturer, measuring 37.22 mm (w) x 41.40 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

2. An Honour Medal of the German Red Cross, constructed of silvered bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Geneva Cross, the obverse with red enameled arms joined through the quadrants by a circular white enameled ring, bearing a central German Red Cross- (DRK) style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, executed in black enamels with gilt details and highlights, the reverse with pebbled arms and bearing a raised inscription of “FÜR VERDIENSTE UM DAS DEUTSCHE ROTE KREUZ” (“FOR SERVICES TO THE GERMAN RED CROSS”), unmarked, measuring 39.02 mm in diameter, demonstrating some flecking and surface fatigue to the enamels, in near extremely fine condition.

Both suspended from a 60 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback and grey wool reverse liner, demonstrating moderate soiling to the ribbons, in near extremely fine condition.
