Germany, Third Reich. A Case for an Order of the German Eagle, Merit Cross II Grade, Pre-1943 Version

(Etui für Verdienstorden vom Deutschen Adler Verdienstkreuz II. Stufe). Constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux red leather exterior liner, the lid bearing a gilt NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the interior with a padded white imitation silk lid liner and intact hinge cover, the former bearing a gilt inscription of “VERDIENSTKREUZ II. STUFE DES ORDENS VOM DEUTSCHEN ADLER MIT SCHWERTERN” (pre-1943 version, post-1943 reclassified as IV Class Cross with Swords),  with a depressed black velvet medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked but likely issued alongside an award manufactured by Gebrüder Godet, Berlin, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 10.5 cm (l) x 2.5 cm (h), demonstrating minor scratching and fatigue to the exterior liner, in near extremely fine condition.
