Description
Description
(Waffen-SS Tarn-Winterbekleidung). A well-preserved and matching set of Waffen-SS camouflaged and reversible winter clothing, consisting of:
1. A parka, constructed of a heavy, multi-paneled cotton cloth. The exterior is dyed in a classic Oak Leaf “A” pattern camouflage mottle consisting of a grey base overlaid by irregular splotches of light and dark brown, in turn interspersed with patches of dark grey, for use in autumn conditions. It features a low-set, turned-down collar finished in an identical camouflage on both sides. The cuffs of each sleeve are inset with hidden channels through which are looped retractable grey cotton drawstrings, each culminating in a reinforced buttonhole meeting a pebbled zink button for flush closure. Each breast flap features a pocket set into the lower half, closing with a scalloped flap perforated with a reinforced buttonhole, meeting a pebbled magnetic metal button. The waistline has a hidden channel through which is looped a cotton drawstring for an adjustable fit with the wearer’s torso. It closes with six pebbled zink and magnetic metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap, with an additional flap flanking the buttons on the right side. The interior is finished in white for use in winter conditions, and has fully analogous features ( the buttons substituted with pressed white card stock examples). Fully unmarked, the parka measures approximately 48 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 68 cm when folded on a flat surface. Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include sporadic holes and tearing to the material, with additional replacement of some of the buttons and moderate soiling. It remains in an overall very fine condition.
2. A pair of trousers, constructed of an identical heavy, multi-paneled cotton cloth. The exterior is dyed in a classic Oak Leaf “A” pattern camouflage mottle consisting of a grey base overlaid by irregular splotches of light and dark brown, in turn interspersed with patches of dark grey, for use in autumn conditions. The trousers close with a French fly, consisting of three zink and magnetic metal buttons on the right side meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left side. A hollow channel set into the waistband accommodates a drawstring which ties together at the back for secure wear. The upper thigh of each leg features a pocket closing with a diagonal flap with a reinforced buttonhole meeting a pebbled zink button. Completing the exterior features a drawstrings set into each ankle for flush closure around the wearer’s boots. The interior is finished in white for use in winter conditions, and has fully analogous features. Unmarked, the trousers measure approximately 45 cm across the waist, with an inseam of 35 cm, and an overall length of 96 cm. Issues consistent with age and field use are evident, and include sporadic holes and tearing to the material, some of which demonstrates hand-stitched repairs with matching material, and consistent soiling throughout the winter side. They are in an overall very fine condition.
