Germany, SS. A Sports Sweater

(SS Sportanzug). A well-preserved SS sports sweater, constructed of a dark navy blue wool cloth. It features a high turned-down collar transitioning into vertical slash at the chest, closing with three bakelite buttons on the right side meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The slash is flanked on the left by a classic SS sports shirt insignia consisting of a black cotton backer bearing a white cotton disc overlaid by machine-embroidered black double Sig runes, measuring 95 mm in overall diameter. The insignia is situated above a single breast pocket which opens with a horizontal slash. Both the waistband and sleeve cuffs feature elasticized bands for a flush fit during use. Unmarked, the sweater measures approximately 50 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 46 cm, and an overall body length of 48 cm when folded on a flat surface. Minor material fatigue consistent with age and use are evident, but the sweater remains in an overall extremely fine condition.
