A rare wartime signed photo of Waffen-SS Panzer ace and Hauptsturmführer Michael Wittmann (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 14 January 1944; with Oak Leaves, 30 January 1944; and Swords, 22 June 1944), featuring a widely-reproduced image of Wittmann wearing a crusher-style visor cap and wool field jacket, with the Knight’s Cross protruding from his collar, the lower half of the image overlaid by his handwritten signature in black ink, the reverse in unused postcard format and bearing an Agfa paper mark, measuring 9 cm (w) x 14 cm (h), an exceptionally rare image from a legendary Panzer commander who was ultimately killed in action during the Normandy campaign in extremely fine condition.
