Description
(Waffen-SS Fotos). A mixed lot of private wartime Waffen-SS photos featuring personnel with rare awards and insignia, including:
1. A studio portrait featuring two Waffen-SS NCOs (Oberscharführer) and one Officer (Obersturmführer) with a female relative, with all three servicemen in uniform, with the individual at centre earring a 1939 Iron Cross II Class ribbon, Black Grade Wound badge, General Assault Badge, DRL Spots Badge, HJ membership badge, and with both the SS-Standarte Deutschland cuff title and NCO dress sword with portepee clearly visible, the Obersturmführer at right notably wearing the Honour Pin of the SS-Heimwehr Danzig, the reverse in unused postcard format and printed on Mimosa photo paper, the obverse bearing a stamped studio mark at the lower right corner, measuring 13.5 cm (w) x 8.5 cm (h), a rare depiction in extremely fine condition.
2. A studio portrait featuring a Leibstandarte SS AH (LSSAH) Sturmmann with cuff title clearly visible, notably wearing a camouflage field cap executed in a plane tree mottle, the reverse in unused postcard format, unmarked, measuring 8.5 cm (w) x 13.5 cm (h), with a horizontal folding crease at centre, in near extremely fine condition.
3. A studio portrait featuring SS Mann and Heer Enlisted soldiers seated with their parents, with the former wearing the collar tab of SS-Schule Bad Tölz, the reverse in postcard format and bearing a stamped Themar (Thuringia) studio mark, printed on Agfa photo paper, measuring 14 cm (w) x 9 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
4. A field photo featuring a Waffen-SS Untersturmführer receiving an award (likely an Iron Cross) from a fellow Officer, standing before a group of Waffen-SS Enlisted soldiers, with all subjects wearing Stahlhelme with plane tree camouflage covers, and with some of the Enlisted soldiers in the background wearing camouflage smocks, the reverse bearing a handwritten caption indicating that the recipient is “UNSTURF. WEINGARTNER”, measuring 10 cm (w) x 7 cm (h), the reverse bearing the remnants of an adhesive consistent with previous album display, in extremely fine condition.
5. A field photo featuring a group of SS-Standarte Deutschland NCOs and Enlisted personnel on parade, with visor caps and overseas caps clearly visible, the reverse in unused postcard format and printed on Agfa photo paper, measuring 14 cm (w) x 9 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
6. A field photo featuring an SS-Standarte Deutschland Enlisted soldier feeding a deer in the woods, the reverse in unused postcard format and printed on Ferrania photo paper, measuring 14 cm (w) x 9 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
7. A studio photo depicting an SS-Hauptscharführer alongside an Heer Unteroffizier (presumably his brother), both wearing sports decorations and the latter wearing a Marksmanship Lanyard, printed on unmarked postcard paper, measuring 14 cm (w) x 9 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
8. A studio photo depicting a Sicherheitsdienst Hauptscharführer alongside his wife on their wedding day, the lower right corner stamped with an Essen studio mark, the reverse bearing a handwritten date of “1942” and location of “ESSEN”, identifying the subject as “ONKEHL HERBET” (Uncle Herbert), then 28 years of age, measuring 8.5 cm (w) x 13 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
9. A candid photo depicting an SS-Sturmbannführer in conversation with a woman, the reverse stamped with a Lublin studio mark, printed on Agfa-Brovira paper, measuring 11.5 cm (w) x 8.5 cm (h), in extremely fine condition.
