In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
Description
(Sturmabteilung Dienstrock mit Hose). A Sturmabteilung (SA) service uniform for ranks Sturmführer-Hauptsturmführer, consisting of:
1. A Dienstrock (service tunic), constructed of olive-drab wool cloth. It features a turned-down collar which is reinforced on the reverse with machine-stitched darts. The collar is flanked on each side by tabs which are constructed of emerald-green wool (indicating issue to SA-Gruppe Nordmark or SA-Gruppe Sachsen) with buckram cores and trimmed with twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire piping. The left side tab is overlaid by two silver aluminum wire tresses, each bisected by black threaded bars, while both tabs measure 40 mm (w) x 60 mm (l). The shoulders are topped by boards which are constructed of grey wool with rigid card stock cores and bear four lengths of twisted and rolled silver-grey celleon wire piping. Each measuring 30 mm (w) x 100 mm (l), the boards are fixed in place with stitching at the seam of the shoulder and with pebbled metal buttons on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 15 cm and trimmed along the upper edge with a silver aluminum wire tresse. Stitched onto the upper left arm is an NSDAP member’s armband, constructed of a red wool base and overlaid by a white rayon disc bearing a black mobile swastika, measuring 10 cm in width. Four pockets are set into the breasts, all closing with reinforced horizontal flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes which in turn meet metal buttons, with the top pockets pleated. Threaded loops are set into the upper left pocket for the accommodation of badges with vertical pinbacks. Two metal belt buttons are set into the centre of the lower back. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab rayon liner which transitions into a pinstripe design through the arms. An integral belt is set into the waistband, and consists of two identical rayon straps which culminate in metal buckles. A multi-coloured cotton twill strap descends from the left armpit and extends into the lower left pocket, where it culminates in a metal ring for the inclusion of a dagger hanger. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 42 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 70 cm when folded on a flat surface. Issues consistent with age, wear, and refurbishment are evident, and include hand-stitched replacement of the collar tabs, the loss of one shoulder board button, and minor material fatigue throughout the base cloth of both the interior and exterior, as well as the armband. The tunic remains in a very fine condition.
2. A pair of breeches, constructed of an identical olive-drab wool cloth. Eight brown bakelite buttons are distributed around the waistband, while an integral belt situated just below the waistband consists of two straps which fasten closed with functional metal buckles. A French fly closes with six pressed card stock buttons. Two side pockets close with diagonal scalloped flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes and pressed card stock buttons, while a single back pocket is set into the upper right leg and has an identical button closure. A vertical slash set into each ankle has a grey rayon drawstring closure. The interior features a partial off-white rayon liner around the waistband, while the reverse of one pocket reveals an intact RZM label, bearing a maker code of “D5/2434”, correctly issued for SA-Stiefelhose (breeches). Measuring approximately 42 cm across the waistband, with an inseam of 66 cm when folded on a flat surface, the breeches demonstrate minor material fatigue to the base cloth, with moderate soiling throughout the interior. They remain in a better than very fine condition.
