Germany, RLB. A Medical Pouch for Air Raid Shelter Personnel, by H.W. Barlen

An extremely well-preserved Reichsluftschutzbund (Reich Air Protection League/RLB) medical pouch, constructed of multiple panels of brown leather, featuring a rigid shell with two straps set into the back which fasten closed for attachment to the front of a wearer’s belt, opening with a fold-over lid to reveal a hollow interior for the inclusion of medical supplies, fastening closed with dual side straps meeting metal studs, the lid retaining a fully-intact Inhaltsverzeichnis (packing list) featuring a list of former contents, stamped with a maker’s mark of “H.W. BARLEN, BERLIN-CHBG. 4” and a mark indicating distribution to the RLB, measuring 21 cm (w) x 13 cm (h), an interesting example of civil defence medical ephemera most commonly issued to air raid shelter personnel, in extremely fine condition.
