Description
Description
(NSDAP Schirmmütze für Politische Leiter der Ortsgruppenleitung). An extremely well-preserved NSDAP visor cap for an Orts-level Political Leader, constructed of brown whipcord wool. The cap is fully surrounded by reinforced side walls which are lined with a brown doeskin cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with lengths of blue wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an insignia consisting of an NSDAP-style German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, executed in a gilded aluminum alloy and measuring 65 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap bands features a multi-piece insignia consisting of an aluminum and enameled NSDAP cockade situated within a gilded oak leaf wreath, measuring 110 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). The cap band is flanked on each side by gilded and pebbled magnetic metal buttons which accommodate a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled gold bullion wire, adjusted with dual functional sliding knots. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in a lacquered dark brown on the obverse and in a matte brown on the reverse. A multi-piece beige rayon liner encompasses the interior, which is also surrounded by a brown leather sweatband, perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes. The crown retains a fully-intact transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard, inserted with a paper label bearing a size mark of “56”. The sweatband folds down to reveal a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label bearing a maker’s code of “27”. Measuring approximately 23.5 cm (w) x 27 cm (l) x 16.5 cm (h), the cap demonstrates minor issues consistent with age and period wear, including sporadic fatigue to the wool base and some deterioration of the sweatband. This superb, untouched example remains in an overall extremely fine condition.
