Description
Description
(NSDAP Mantel für Hauptstellenleiter). An NSDAP Orts-level Hauptstellenleiter greatcoat, constructed of a coarse olive-drab wool. It features a turned-down collar lined with layer khaki-tan wool executed with a whipcord weave, transitioning into double lapels. A length of twisted and rolled blue rayon piping fully trims the outer edge of the collar, which is also flanked by a matching set of tabs. The latter are constructed of brown wool with buckram cores, are trimmed with blue piping, bear two gold bullion wire tresses stitched into an “L” shape, and measure 45 mm (w) x 60 mm (l). Each cuff is rolled up to a depth of 15 cm, and is securely fixed in place with a row of machine stitched around the top edge. Two side pockets are set into the waistband and close with reinforced unbuttoned flaps. The lapels are flanked on each side by six gilded magnetic metal buttons, all bearing NSDAP-style German national eagles clutching swastikas, meeting analogous reinforced buttonholes on the opposite side for flush closure. A vertical slit is set into the back and runs approximately one half of the length of the coat, and is topped by two straps serving as an integral belt, fastening closed with four buttons of identical execution to those found on the front. A partial khaki-tan rayon
blended liner extends across the shoulders and the upper back and accommodates a single interior pocket situated at the upper left breast. Retained within the pocket is a matching Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label issued for a Political Leader’s Mantel (greatcoat), and bearing a manufacturer’s code of “857” for an unidentified firm. It measures approximately 48 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 54 cm, and an overall body length of 126 cm. Issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include large patch repairs (using identical material) to the upper left shoulder and right armpit, other sporadic repairs using careful and tight stitching through the base material, the replacement of a number of buttons (with all except one featuring RZM codes on the reverse), and fatigue of the interior liner. Demonstrating all signs of period use by an official in an administrative position, this greatcoat remains in a very fine condition.
