Germany, Luftwaffe. A Reversible Splinter Pattern Camouflage Winter Jacket

(Luftwaffe Winteranzug im Splittertarnmuster). A well-preserved Luftwaffe reversible camouflage winter jacket, constructed of a multi-panel cotton/rayon blended cloth base. The exterior is dyed in a classic Luftwaffe-issue Splittertarnmuster (splinter pattern) camouflage scheme, with a mottle consisting of a primarily light green base overlaid by irregular splotches of dark green and brown, all overlaid by dark green splinters. The jacket turns inside-out, with the base material remaining in an unspoiled white for use in winter field conditions. Both sides have analogous features for year-round functionality, including a hood with an original drawstring, dual side pockets which fasten closed with pebbled metal buttons, and an integral belt set into the waist. The breasts close with six pebbled metal buttons on each side meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite flap. The winter side right pocket shows the illegible remnants of a stamped maker’s mark or unit attribution. Otherwise unmarked, the jacket measures approximately 52 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall length of 72 cm. Minor soiling and material fatigue consistent with both age and field use are evident, and include sporadic holes to the base material, but this Luftwaffe-issue winter garment, commonly issued to Field Divisions personnel, remains in a near extremely fine condition.
