Germany, Luftwaffe. A Radio Operator and Air Gunner Badge, Late-War Example, by Wilhelm Deumer

(Fliegerschützenabzeichen für Bordfunker). Constructed of silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by a mobile swastika, overlaid by a Luftwaffe eagle clutching a pair of lightning bolts while in mid-flight, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the obverse eagle in position, with a barrel hinge emanating from an oval plate and vertical pinback meeting a flat wire catch emanating from a circular plate, maker marked “W. DEUMER, LÜDENSCHEID”, measuring 44.05 mm (w) x 53.60 mm (h), weighing 25.5 grams, demonstrating total loss of silver finish throughout the base metal with additional surface fatigue to the reverse of the eagle rendering the maker’s mark partially legible, a late-war example in very fine condition.
