Constructed of tombak and nickel silver, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, overlaid by a swooping Luftwaffe eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with two visible rivets securing the eagle in position, with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, maker marked with the logo of F.W. Assmann & Söhne, Lüdenscheid, measuring 65.12 mm (w) x 53.36 mm (h) (inclusive of wingspan), weighing 45.4 grams, a Type 8 badge demonstrating Assmann’s noted quality in extremely fine condition.
