Germany, Kriegsmarine. An S-Boat War Badge, Second Pattern, by Schwerin

(Schnellboot-Kriegsabzeichen, 2. Form). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Kriegsmarine eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounding a central depiction of an S-Boat cutting through waves, with its bow extending beyond the edge of the edge of the wreath, the reverse with a barrel hinge and horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, topped by a stabilizer demonstrating characteristic striations, designer marked “W.E. PEEKHAUS, BERLIN”, maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 52.18 mm (w) x 59.89 mm (h), weighing 31.4 grams, demonstrating loss of gilt and silver finish throughout, in very fine condition.
