Description
(U-Boot Lederjacke und Hose). A matching and well-preserved Kriegsmarine U-Boat crewman’s leather uniform set. It includes a jacket constructed of multiple panels of dark slate-grey leather reinforced along all seams with heavy machine stitching. A turned-down collar transitions into two breast lapels, while two pockets set into each side close with buttonless horizontal and vertical flaps. Four matte grey magnetic metal buttons are set into each breast flap, with the right side buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. All buttons on the jacket are maker marked on the reverse with the logo of Overhoff & Cie, Lüdenscheid. A multi-piece dark slate-grey wool liner encompasses the interior, terminating at the shoulders, where a grey cotton twill liner extends through the arms to the cuffs. A single interior pocket is located at the upper left breast, and is formed by a continuation of the leather base into the inner breast. Unmarked, the jacket measures approximately 48 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 62 cm, and an overall body length of 95 cm when folded on a flat surface. Age-appropriate material fatigue is visible to the leather base, while a nametag formerly situated over the collar is missing. It remains in a near extremely fine condition. Accompanying the jacket is a set of trousers, similarly constructed of multiple panels of slate-grey leather. Six bakelite buttons are distributed around the waistband, which also features a French fly in the form four hidden bakelite buttons meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes, topped by a magnetic metal hook and clasp. Two side pockets open with vertical slashes, while an integral belt set into the back consists of two straps of identical construction fastening closed with a functional magnetic metal buckle. A blue/grey cotton/rayon blended cloth liner fully encompasses the interior, which also retains an intact label bearing an owner’s name of “L. MARESCH”, with a hometown of “PUKLITZ BEI IGLAU” (now Puklice, Jihlava district, Czech Republic), and a date of “16. X. 1942”. Measuring approximately 47 cm across the waist, with an inseam of 32 cm, and an overall length of 106 cm, the trousers demonstrate minor and age-appropriate fatigue to the leather base, but, along with the jacket, present in a remarkably well-preserved state for field worn examples, and are in an extremely fine condition.
