Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Rare Austrian U-Boat Crewman’s Sleeve Insignia, with Stick Pin Miniature

(Ärmelabzeichen für österreichische U-Boot-Besatzungsmitglieder, mit Anstecknadel). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of a faithful depiction of the Austro-Hungarian U-Boat War Badge in the form of a fouled anchor flanked by initials “UB” (“UNTERSEEBOOT”), affixed with all four reverse attachment prongs to a magnetic metal backplate with a dark navy blue wool backer indicating use on the Kriegsmarine uniform of identical colour, measuring 44 mm (w) x 64 mm (h), demonstrating minor loss of finish throughout, with oxidation throughout the backplate, a rare and unofficial insignia worn as a traditions badge by Austrian personnel attached to the Kriegsmarine U-Boat service, in better than very fine condition; accompanied by a matching stick pin miniature, constructed of gilded and silvered bronze, unmarked, measuring 15 mm (w) x 22 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
