Description
Description
(Kriegsmarine Überzieher für Marinebeamte). An extremely well-preserved Marinebeamte (Naval Administration) service jacket, constructed of a dark blue wool blended cloth with a pronounced whipcord eave. It features a turned-down collar with a dark blue wool underlay, in turn reinforced with machine-stitched darts. The cuff of each sleeve is adorned with a wide silver aluminum wire tresse, topped by two narrow tresses of identical construction, indicating an Administration Vizeadmiral equivalent. Each forearm also bears an Elevated Ranks angina in the form of a dark blue wool backer bearing a silver aluminum wire German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika above three chevrons, both measuring 40 mm (w) x 50 mm (h). Stitched onto the upper right breast is an insignia consisting of a multi-layered dark blue wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire German national eagle, measuring 120 mm (w) x 50 mm (h) overall. Side pockets are set into the lower half of each breast, both closing with buttonless horizontal flaps, with an additional narrow pocket set into the upper left. Three threaded loops set into the base material just above the latter accommodate the addition of a ribbon bar, while two pairs of vertically-arranged loops below the same pocket facilitate the addition of badges with horizontal pinbacks. The jacket closes with four silvered metal buttons on each flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the opposite side. Notably, the reverse of each button is stamped with a Kriegsmarine issue mark and date of “1940”. Stitched through the top left buttonhole is a ribbon for a War Merit Cross II Class. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece black rayon liner, similarly showing a pronounced whipcord weave and including two breast pockets, which transitions into a pinstripe design through the arms. A presumed maker’s code is stamped onto the right sleeve liner. Otherwise unmarked, the jacket measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 60 cm, and an overall length of 74 cm (when folded on a flat surface). Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, this scarce and high-quality jacket issued to an Naval Administration Admiral equivalent remains in an extremely fine condition.
