Description
(Kriegsmarine Admiral Fotos). A lot of three private wartime photographs from the estate of Admiral Otto Schniewind (Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross, 20 April 1940), including:
1. One large image depicting Schniewind in a greatcoat and with a dress dagger suspended at his waist, taking a salute from Kriegsmarine Officers in front of buildings depicting clear signs of battle damage, the reverse bearing a handwritten inscription indicating that the photo was taken at Le Havre, France, in the autumn of 1940, measuring 180 mm (w) x 130 mm (h), demonstrating some discolouration, in extremely fine condition.
2. One studio portrait depicting Schniewind in uniform and with the Knight’s Cross visible on a neck ribbon, the reverse in unused postcard format and bearing an Agfa paper mark, measuring 80 mm (w) x 128 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. One candid image depicting Schniewind on board a vessel, wearing an oilskin greatcoat and smoking a cigar while in conversation with an Officer, the lower edge of the image bearing a handwritten English-language inscription reading “THE GOOD OLD DAYS!”, measuring 102 mm (w) x 125 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
