Description

(Kriegsmarine Krimschild). Constructed of bronzed feinzink, the obverse consisting of a shield bearing a map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, in turn flanked by dates "1941-1942", the reverse retaining all four attachment prongs affixing the shield to an original metal backplate with a dark navy blue wool liner and intact black backer, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by Karl Wurster, Markneukirchen, the shield measuring 51.40 mm (w) x 61.42 mm (h), demonstrating moderate loss of finish to the base metal, in near extremely fine condition.
