Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Destroyer War Badge with Presentation Box by Schwerin & Sons

(Zerstörerkriegsabzeichen). Instituted June 4th, 1940. (Mid to late war issue). Constructed of gilded and silvered zink, the obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounding a central depiction of a destroyer cutting through waves, the reverse with a hinge soldered prone to the reverse with a tapered horizontal pinback meeting a flat wire catch, topped by a stabilizer S-hook, maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin 68” on the reverse, measuring 45.4 mm (w) x 53.3 mm (l), weighing 21.72 grams, with much of its original finish remaining, in overall better than very fine condition. Accompanied by its presentation box, consisting of cardstock, with a faux leather exterior and wax paper on the inside for padding, measuring 55 mm (w) x 63 mm (l), missing one of the sides of the base, in near fine condition.
