Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Coastal Artillery Officer’s Overseas Cap

(Kriegsmarine Schiffchen für Offiziere der Küstenartillerie). An extremely well-preserved Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Officer’s overseas cap, constructed of field-grey wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side walls which gently slope toward the front. The edge of the walls is fully trimmed by a length of fine gold bullion wire piping. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a field-grey rayon backer bearing a machine-embroidered golden-yellow Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 30 mm (h) overall. Directly below the eagle, the peak also features a machine-embroidered tri-colour cockade applied to a field-grey rayon backer measuring 34 mm (w) x 34 mm (h). The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece olive-drab cotton liner. Stamped onto the right side is a size mark of “K57”. Otherwise unmarked, the cap measures approximately 29 cm (l) x 13 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor soiling and fatigue, this superb example remains in an extremely fine condition.
