Description
Description
(Kriegsmarine Waffenrock für einen Leutnant der Küstenartillerie). A very well-preserved Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery Leutnant service tunic, constructed of field-grey wool with a pronounced nap. It features a turned-down collar which is topped by a layer of dark green wool cloth. The collar is flanked by tabs which are constructed of green wool with buckram cores and topped by two silver aluminum wire insignia bisected by golden-yellow threaded tresses, in turn divided by white wool bars in classic Coastal Artillery format, both measuring 45 mm (w) x 70 mm (l). The shoulders are flanked by boards which are constructed of dark green wool with rigid card stock cores and which are topped by four bands of silver aluminum wire piping. Each measuring 30 mm (w) x 105 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with stitching at the seam of the shoulder and with metal buttons bearing fouled anchors on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 17 cm and secured in place with machine stitching around the entirety of the circumference. Four pockets are set into the breasts, with the upper pockets pleated, all closing with scalloped flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes which in turn meet metal buttons appropriately bearing fouled anchors. Stitched onto the upper right breast is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered gold bullion wire Kriegsmarine eagle, measuring 105 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The tunic closes with five metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece slate-grey rayon liner which continues uninterrupted through the arms. Two interior pockets are incorporated into the upper breast flaps. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 44 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 56 cm, and an overall length of 70 cm. Minor soiling and material fatigue is visible throughout, but the tunic remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
