Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Cased Blockade Runner Badge, with Miniature Stick Pin, by Schwerin and Sons

(Abzeichen für Blockadebrecher mit Miniatur Anstecknadel und Etui). Instituted April 1st, 1941. (Mid to late war issue). Constructed of silvered and patinated zinc, the obverse consisting of a circular chain link wreath, surrounding a central blockade breaker cutting through waves and breaching the chain, overlaid across the bow by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flat wire catch, designer marked “Otto Placzek, Berlin” and maker marked “Schwerin, Berlin” in capital letters, measuring 48.5 mm in diameter, weighing 31.96 grams. Accompanied by a matching stick pin miniature, constructed of silvered and patinated zinc and visually identical to its larger counterpart, the reverse with a long vertical knurled needle pin, unmarked, measuring 25.9 mm in diameter. With a matching presentation case, constructed of a lightweight wooden frame with a dark blue faux leather exterior liner, the interior lined with a blue rayon lid liner and intact hinge cover with both external hinges intact, measuring 105 mm (w) x 82 mm (l). A fine matching cased set for a Blockade Runner Badge, in overall better than very fine condition.
