Germany, Kriegsmarine. A Blockade Runner Badge, Variation 2, Refurbished Example by Schwerin

(Abzeichen für Blockadebrecher). Constructed of silvered tombak, the obverse consisting of a circular chain link wreath, surrounding a blockade runner cutting through waves and breaking the chain at the six o’clock position, with its bow overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika while in mid-flight, the reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a flattened and rounded catch, designer marked “OTTO PLACZEK, BERLIN” and maker marked “SCHWERIN, BERLIN”, measuring 48.91 mm in diameter, weighing 32.0 grams, demonstrating expert restoration of the swastika following denazification for post-war wear, with additional evidence of polishing, a refurbished example in very fine condition.
