Constructed of lacquered dark brown wood, the lid bearing a hand-painted shamrock flanked by monogram-style initials “HC”, opening with dual functional hinges to reveal a hollow interior, the lid riveted with a bone plaque bearing a handwritten maker’s name of “HANS ZIEHMANN, PRISONER OF WAR”, fastening closed with a functional snap button, measuring 14 cm (w) x 8 cm (l) x 7 cm (h), an excellent example of POW trench art crafted by a German serviceman incarcerated at Amherst Internment Camp (Nova Scotia, Canada) and gifted to a camp guard, official, or local, in extremely fine condition.
