(Beobachterabzeichen). Constructed of silvered brass with multi-coloured enamels, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel and oak leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, topped by a German State Crown, surrounding a central radiant field overlaid by a red enameled plaque with a black and white checkered centrepiece, the reverse with a barrel hinge and vertical pinback meeting a round wire catch, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by C.E. Juncker, Berlin, measuring 45.22 mm (w) x 71.78 mm (h), weighing 29.2 grams, a chip is visible to the top of the obverse plaque which has been crudely repaired with red lacquer paint (demonstrating some spillover onto the metal base of the wreath), in very fine condition.
