For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. Description
Description
(Preußen 1. Weltkrieg Pickelhaube Modell 1915 feldgrau für Mannschaften der Infanterie). An M1915 Prussian-issue Pickelhaube for Enlisted ranks, constructed of a black vulcan fibre shell. Situated atop the crown is an oxidized magnetic metal spike perforated along the neck with ventilation holes, and which is secured in place with a baseplate featuring four rivets. A spine of identical construction emanates from the back of the baseplate and extends down to a black vulcan fibre neck guard. Pinned to the peak is an insignia consisting of a magnetic metal plate in the form of a Prussian imperial eagle clutching an orb and sceptre, overlaid by a monogram and banner bearing an inscription of ‘MIT GOTT FÜR KOENIG UND VATERLAND” (“WITH GOD FOR KING AND FATHERLAND”), measuring 12 cm (w) x 11.5 cm (h). It is flanked by magnetic metal studs which accommodate an intact black leatherette chinstrap which is adjusted with dual bronze buckles. Secured in place beneath the studs are magnetic metal cockades, with the right side painted in an Imperial tri-colour red, white, and black motif, while the left cockade displays a Prussian black and white colour scheme. The exterior features are completed by a protruding black vulcan fibre visor, lined along the rim with an oxidized magnetic metal reinforcement. A partially-intact scalloped and blackened leather liner encompasses the interior. Unmarked, the Pickelhaube measures approximately 18.5 cm (w) x 24.5 cm (l) x 23 cm (h) (inclusive of visors and spike). Significant issues consistent with age and field wear are evident, and include fatigue throughout the shell, surface oxidation of the metal fixtures, minor loss of paint to the cockades, the loss of the plate rivets, and deterioration throughout the interior features. This well-worn example remains in a fair condition.
