In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
(Heer Bajonett M1898). An extremely well-preserved M1898 bayonet, measuring 68 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 52.5 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains unspoiled factory-original sharpening to the tip. A wide fuller runs the majority of the length of each side of the blade. Stamped onto the obverse ricasso is a maker’s mark of “SIMSON & SO., SUHL”. Otherwise unmarked, it sits securely within a multi-piece hilt featuring a crossguard with a hooked quillon, itself stamped with an issue number of “31532”. A hooked pommel has a hollow insertion slot which retains a fully-functional push-button spring release. Two pieces of ribbed brown wood compose the handle grip, and are fixed in place with dual magnetic metal rivets. The bayonet is accompanied by its original scabbard, constructed of a boiled and blackened leather shaft. Nickel-plated magnetic metal fixtures are secured to both the tip and throat. A downward-pointing hook emanates from the latter for the accommodation of a frog, and is stamped with a matching issue number of “31532”. The throat retains a functional catch to hold the bayonet in place during storage. Demonstrating only minor signs of wear and fatigue consistent with age and field use, this matching set, intended for use on the Mauser Gewehr 98, remains in a near extremely fine condition.
