Description
Description
(Husaren Attila für Mannschaften der 16. Husaren-Regiment Kaiser Franz Joseph I. von Österreich). A well-preserved Attila for Enlisted personnel of the 16th (Schleswig-Holstein) Hussar Regiment “Emperor Franz Joseph”, constructed of cornflower-blue wool cloth. The shoulders are topped by straps constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver-grey threading, emanating from the shoulder seam at the outer edge and fastening in place with a domed bronze button on the inner edge. The breast flaps retain silver-grey threaded frogging which narrow in width from the top to bottom, all retaining metal rosettes and toggle buttons. The cuff of each sleeve is similarly adorned with silver-grey threaded braids. Additional braiding of identical construction is distributed throughout the back, with two additional metal toggles situated above a short vertical slit. The interior features a partial white cotton liner extending over approximately two-thirds of the torsor, with a single pouch-style pocket stitched in place at the lower left. Stamped onto the back in black ink is a regimental attribution “HR16” , above a crossed-out mark of “7. RHR”, indicating previous distribution to Husaren-Regiment “König Wilhelm I.” (1. Rheinisches) Nr. 7., in turn situated above dates “1902” and “1904”. Notably, additional ink stamps beside the unit marks and at the left armpit indicate that the Attila was later used as an authentic costume for film and theatre productions. It measures approximately 43 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 60 cm, and an overall body length of 65 cm. Issues consistent with age, field use, and prop use are evident, and include moderate material fatigue to the base metal, the replacement of a number of toggles and rosettes, with fatigue and soiling of the interior liner (the latter demonstrating period repair). A storied example, the Attila remains in a very fine condition.\
