(Ordensschnalle und Bandschnalle für Nichtkämpfer). A superb First World War medal bar to a non-combatant with distinguished Red Cross Service. It features seven decorations, including:
1. A 1914 Iron Cross for Non-Combatants, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blacked magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution
date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, without visible marks, measuring 42.72 mm (w) x 47.38 mm (h), in extremely fine condition. 2. A Bavarian King Ludwig Cross, constructed of blackened bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 39.75 mm (w) x 46.00 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
3. A Bavarian Merit Cross for Medical Volunteers, constructed of silver with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with a “1914” clasp, consisting of a Cross Pattée with pebbled arms, the obverse twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, with a central white enameled medallion bearing a red Geneva Cross, within a ring of blue enamel, the reverse bearing a central raised Bavarian coat of arms, unmarked, measuring 35.25 mm (w) x 42.20 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
4. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Non-Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse bearing an unidentified maker’s mark, measuring 37.24 mm (w) x 42.64 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.
5. A Bavarian Golden Wedding Anniversary Commemorative Medal, constructed of blackened magnetic iron, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 37.96 mm in diameter, demonstrating minor surface oxidation, in very fine condition.
6. A German Red Cross Medal, III Class in Bronze, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 32.75 mm in diameter, with some tarnishing evident, in very fine condition.
7. An Austrian Honour Decoration of the Red Cross, Bronze Medal, constructed of gilded bronze with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, unmarked, measuring 36.82 mm (w) x 49.26 mm (h), with minor flecking of enamels evident, in near extremely fine condition.
All suspended from a 195 mm-long bronze bar with a horizontal pinback and red wool reverse liner, unmarked, demonstrating the characteristics of Third Reich-period assembly with contemporary ribbons, a scarce bar to a distinguished medical volunteer in extremely fine condition.
Accomapanied by a matching ribbon bar, set on a 105 mm-long magnetic metal bar with a horizontal pinback, unmarked, in extremely fine condition.
