Description
The Militärpaß is dated to Frankenstein on August 24, 1920 and signed by a Lieutenant and Adjutant of Infantry Regiment No. 63, the name is illegible. Measuring 86x139mm, very fine condition with some scuffing and creasing, and light soiling. The Landsturmschein (homeland militia certificate) is dated to Gleiwitz (present-day Gliwice, southern Poland) on June 10, 1911. Measuring 84x145mm, near very fine condition with folding crease and some scuffing and fraying.
Footnote: Kurt Erich Serzisko was born on September 3, 1889 in Oppeln (present-day Opole, southwest Poland). He worked as an office assistant before being drafted into the Landsturm in June, 1911. Serzisko joined the army on March 1, 1915 and was placed in Grenadier Regiment No. 10. He fought in Romania and France and was awarded both classes of the Iron Cross. In 1916, Serzisko was wounded, shot in the left upper lip, for which he had to be treated in the Feldlazarett in Cambrai. He was promoted to Gefreiter (Lance Corporal) on June 24, 1916 and to Unteroffizier (NCO) on December 10, 1917. Serzisko was transferred to Infantry Regiment 63 on December 18, 1918. He was promoted to Sergeant on March 31, 1920, and that same year, on August 31, was discharged due to the German army’s demilitarisation effort in compliance with the Treaty of Versailles.
