Germany, Imperial. A Medal Bar For Distinguished First And Second World War Service

(Ordensschnalle). A medal bar to a recipient with distinguished First and Second World War service. It features seven decorations, including:

1. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, without visible marks, measuring 42.69 mm (w) x 46.29 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

2. A Saxon Order of Merit, II Class Knight’s Cross with Swords, constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Maltese Cross with white enameled arms, with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a gilded and enameled Saxon coat of arms, circumscribed by a gilt inscription of “FRIED. AUG. K. V. SACHSEN D. 7. JUN. 1815”, the reverse bearing a central white enameled medallion overlaid by a gilt inscription of “FÜR VERDIENST UND TREUE” (“FOR SERVICE AND LOYALTY”), within a circular green enameled oak leaf wreath, without visible marks, measuring 34.62 mm (w) x 34.96 mm (h), with minor flecking and surface scratching visible to the enamels, in near extremely fine condition.

3. A Saxon Albert Order, II Class Knight’s Cross with Swords, constructed of gilded silver with multi-coloured enamels, consisting of a Latin Cross with white enameled arms, with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing a central white enameled medallion, overlaid by a gilded and rightward-facing profile of Duke Albert III, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt inscription of “ALBERTUS ANIMOSUS” (“ALBERT THE VALIANT”) with arabesques, the reverse bearing a central white enameled medallion, overlaid by a gilded and enameled Saxon coat of arms, within a ring of blue enamel bearing a gilt institution date of “1850” with laurel branches, the twelve o’clock arm topped by a stylize suspension with a period original ribbon, the six o’clock arm maker marked with what appears to be a “G” indicating Glaser & Söhne, Dresden, measuring 35.96 mm (w) x 46.40 mm (h), with some flecking of enamels evident, in extremely fine condition.

4. An Honour Cross of the World War 1914/1918 for Combatants, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with crossed swords piercing the centrepiece, the obverse bearing central wreathed dates “1914-1918”, the reverse maker marked with the logo of Wächtler & Lange, Mittweida, measuring 36.82 mm (w) x 41.51 mm (h), in extremely fine condition.

5. A Wehrmacht 18-Year Long Service Award, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with Heer/Kriegsmarine device, consisting of a Cross Pattée with ribbed arms, the obverse bearing a central raised Heer-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised number “18”, unmarked, measuring 35.76 mm (w) x 40.59 mm (h), with minor loss of finish evident, in near extremely fine condition.

6. A Wehrmacht 4-Year Long Service Award, constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon missing its Heer/Kriegsmarine device, the obverse bearing a raised Heers-style German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, circumscribed by an inscription of “TREUE DIENSTE IN DER WEHRMACHT” (“FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE WEHRMACHT”), the reverse bearing a central wreathed number “4”, unmarked, measuring 30.22 mm in diameter, with minor loss of finish evident, in near extremely fine condition.

7. A Sudetenland Medal, constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension with its period original ribbon pinned with a Prague Castle Bar, the obverse bearing two raised figures, one of which is clutching a flag and the other a length of broken chain, above a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a central raised date of “1. OKTOBER 1938”, circumscribed by an inscription of “EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER” (“ONE PEOPLE, ONE NATION, ONE LEADER”), unmarked, measuring 32.08 mm in diameter, the clasp 31.06 mm (w) x 10.90 mm (h), in near extremely fine condition.

All suspended from a 190 mm-long bronze bar with a horizontal pinback and field-grey wool reverse liner, unmarked, with minor soiling visible to the ribbons in addition to the missing device, in near extremely fine condition.
