First War Soldbuch; Saxe-Ernestine House Order Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Swords certificate; Saxe-Meiningen War Merit Cross certificate; Iron Cross 2nd Class certificate;Wound Badge in Black certificate; discharge certificate.
The Soldbuch is dated to March 27, 1915. Measuring 85 mm (w) x 140 mm (h), presenting some scuffing of the cover, spine repair, body of the booklet remains intact, remains better than fine.
The Saxe-Ernestine House Order Knight’s Cross 2nd Class with Swords certificate is named to Lieutenant of the Reserve Hellmuth Walther in Reserve Infantry Regiment 233. It is dated to Gotha on August 16, 1916. Measuring 220 mm (w) x 332 mm (h), presenting two folding creases and light overall creasing, remains very fine.
The Saxe-Meiningen War Merit Cross certificate is named to Walther in the same rank and unit as above. It is dated to July 21, 1915. Measuring 211 mm (w) x 329 mm (h), presenting two folding creases and some overall creasing, remains near very fine.
The Iron Cross 2nd Class certificate is named to Gefreiter (lance corporal) Walther of the 9th Company of Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 233, for bravery during the fights east of the river Yser. It is dated to December 9, 1914. Measuring 214 mm (w) x 268 mm (h), presenting a folding crease, light overall creasing, and several age spots, remains very fine.
The Wound Badge in Black is named to Lieutenant of the Reserve Walther of Infantry Regiment 98. It is dated to August 5, 1918. Measuring 212 mm (w) x 166 mm (h), presenting a folding crease and light overall creasing, remains better than very fine.
The discharge certificate is named to Walther in the same rank and unit as above. It is dated to February 12, 1919. Measuring 208 mm (w) x 165 mm (h), presenting two folding creases and light scuffing of the edges, remains very fine.
Footnote: Hellmuth Walther was born on November 10, 1891. His front service inlcudes serving in Reserve Infantry Regiment 233 from October 18, 1914 to April 10, 1916, in Landwehr Infantry Regiment 82 from May 6, 1917 to May 17, 1918, and in Infantry Regiment 98 from May 27 to November 19, 1918. Walther fought exclusively on the western front, taking part in battles at the river Yser, the Second Battle of Ypres, the Second Battle of the Aisne, and the Second Battle of the Marne, among others.
