Germany, Imperial. A Battle of Tannenberg Commemorative Medallion in Silver, by Arthur Löwenthal

(Schlacht bei Tannenberg Erinnerungsmedaille in Silber). Constructed of silver, the obverse featuring a raised bust of then-Generaloberst Paul von Hindenburg, circumscribed by name and rank, the reverse bearing a central raised depiction of a Teutonic knight, flanked by inscriptions of “TANNENBERG” and “ORTELSBURG”, situated above a date of “1914”, circumscribed by an inscription of “DER RUSSENBEZWINGER / OSTPEUSSENSBEFREIER” (“THE CONQUEROR OF THE RUSSIANS / THE LIBERATOR OF EAST PRUSSIA”), the reverse engraver marked “A. LÖWENTHAL” for noted medallist Arthur Löwenthal, the edge stamped with an inscription of “SILBER” and content mark of “990”, measuring 33.26 mm in diameter, weighing 17.9 grams, demonstrating some edge bruising and pitting to the base metal, in near extremely fine condition.
