Germany, Imperial. A 1915 Kaiser Wilhelm II Patriotic Cameo Cup and Saucer, by Lorenz Hutschenreuther

(1. Weltkrieg Patriotische Kaffeetasse). A fine First World War patriotic cup and saucer, each constructed of glazed porcelain, the former featuring a hand-painted blue finish with gilt oak leaf tresses applied to both the base and upper border, overlaid a pale blue oval medallion trimmed with a gilt border interspersed with enameled gems, bearing a raised and leftward-facing profile of Kaiser Wilhelm executed in white paint with exceptional detail, with an ornate curved gilt handle culminating at the rim, the interior finished in hand-applied gilt, the base bearing the maker’s mark of Lorenz Hutschenreuther, with an additional inscription of “ANNO 1915” indicating wartime production as part of a patriotic fundraising campaign, measuring 11 cm (w) x 12 cm (h) (inclusive of handle), accompanied by a matching saucer, executed in white with gilt rings, the base bearing a wartime stamp, measuring 13.5 cm in diameter, small chips are visible to the cup’s handle which have been repaired and partially repainted, a striking set in near extremely fine condition.
