Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross II Class, with Customized Presentation Case and Button Miniature, by Sy & Wagner

(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 II. Klasse mit Miniatur und Etui). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with three central oak leaves, the six o’clock arm with an initial institution date of “1813”, the twelve o’clock arm with initials “FW” topped by a royal crown, the suspension loop maker marked with the logo of Sy & Wagner, Berlin, measuring 43.20 mm (w) x 46.62 mm (h), weighing 17.2 grams, accompanied by a ribbon miniature affixed to a black bakelite button, both secreted within a customized presentation case, constructed of a pressed card stock frame with a faux blue leather exterior liner, the lid bearing the faint traces of a gilded depiction of the award, the interior with a white satin lid liner and intact hinge cover, with a fitted white wool medal bed, closing with a functional metal spring catch with exterior stud release, unmarked, measuring 68 mm (w) x 100 mm (l) x 20 mm (h), demonstrating minor surface oxidation to the core of the cross in addition to some material fatigue of the case, in overall very fine condition.
