Germany, Imperial. A 1914 Iron Cross I Class, Screwback Version, by Paul Meybauer

(Eisernes Kreuz 1914 I. Klasse an Schraubscheibe). Reinstituted 5 August 1914 by Kaiser Wilhelm II. (1914-1918 issue). Constructed of iron and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened magnetic iron core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central initial “W”, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1914”, the twelve o’clock arm with a royal crown, the reverse with a central threaded lug retaining an original nut, the six o’clock arm stamped with a silver content number of “800”, the twelve o’clock arm stamped with the logo of Paul Meybauer, Berlin, the nut stamped with a silver content number of “800” and a D.R.G.M. registration mark, measuring 42.87 mm (w) x 42.62 mm (h), weighing 20.6 grams (inclusive of hardware), missing its Cross Pattée-shaped backplate which would have been secured in place with the accompanying nut, a high-quality example in near extremely fine condition.
