Germany, HJ. A Winter Service Cap

(HJ Wintermütze). An extremely well-preserved HJ winter service cap, constructed of padded black wool. The cap is fully surrounded by fold-down side panels which slope downward toward the front, providing optional ear and neck protection to the wearer. When not in use, the panels roll up and are secured in place with a functional aluminum buckle. Stitched onto the peak is an HJ insignia executed in multi-coloured machine embroidery, measuring 15 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). A protruding visor completes the exterior features, and consists of a rigid card stock core fully lined in identical wool. A multi-piece, quilted, black rayon liner fully encompasses the interior. Stitched onto the crown is a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label, correctly issued for HJ/DJ headgear, stamped with a manufacturer’s code of “5379”. The cap measures approximately 17 cm (w) x 23 cm (l) x 11 cm (h). Demonstrating only minor material fatigue, this untouched example of HJ winter field gear remains in an extremely fine condition
