In response to evolving domestic opinion, eMedals Inc has made the conscious decision to remove the presentation of German Third Reich historical artifacts from our online catalogue. For three decades, eMedals Inc has made an effort to preserve history in all its forms. As historians and researchers, we have managed sensitive articles and materials with the greatest of care and respect for their past and present social context. We acknowledge the growing sentiments put forth by the Canadian public and have taken proactive actions to address this opinion.

Description
Description
(HJ Fahrtenmesser). An HJ member’s knife, measuring 25 cm in total length when inserted into the scabbard. It features a 14 cm-long, nickel-plated, magnetic steel blade which retains some factory-original sharpening to the tip and lower edge. The reverse of the blade bears a partially-visible maker’s mark for the firm of Klittermann & Moog, Haan bei Solingen, while the ricasso is marked with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and code “M7/29” for the same manufacturer. The blade sits securely within a nickel-plated non-magnetic metal alloy hilt which features a hooked quillon and pommel, and which retains an intact black leather buffer pad. Two pieces of pebbled black bakelite compose the handle grip, and are fastened in place with dual non-magnetic metal rivets. Inset into the obverse of the handle is an enameled HJ insignia measuring 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (l). Accompanying the knife is its original scabbard, constructed of a blackened magnetic metal shaft. A black leather strap is riveted to the reverse, and fastened into a loop for belt suspension. The throat retains a functional spring catch to firmly hold the knife in place during storage. Significant issues consistent with age and period use are evident, and include running marks and oxidation to the blade (with evidence of cleaning and polishing which has compromised both the nickel plating and the inscriptions), loss of nickel plating to the hilt resulting in oxidation, loosening of the overall structure of the knife, loss of finish throughout the scabbard resulting in oxidation, and material fatigue to the strap. This transitional knife remains in a fair condition.
