Germany, HJ. A Field Cap

(HJ Sommer-Mütze). A well-preserved HJ field cap, constructed of khaki-tan cotton. The cap is fully surrounded by stylized side walls which are trimmed along the seam with red piping. Stitched onto the lower peak is a machine-embroidered multi-coloured HJ insignia measuring 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). A buckram internal reinforcement is palpable along the lower edge, measuring approximately 20 mm in width, to maintain the cap’s structural integrity while in wear. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece brown cotton blended cloth liner. Stitched onto the crown is a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) label, correctly issued for the HJ Sommer-Mütze, bearing an illegible maker’s code. A black ink size mark of “56” is also visible on the crown. The cap measures approximately 27 cm (l) x 9 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating no notable damage or wear, it remains in an extremely fine condition.
