Germany, HJ. A Field Cap

(HJ Sommer-Mütze). A well-preserved HJ field cap, constructed of a khaki-tan cotton/rayon blended cloth. The cap is fully surrounded by stylized side walls which are trimmed along the seam with red piping. Stitched onto the peak is an insignia consisting of a machine-embroidered, multi-coloured HJ emblem measuring 16 mm (w) x 30 mm (h). The interior is surrounded along the lower edge with a grey leatherette sweatband, while the crown retains an intact HJ-issue RZM label bearing a handwritten maker’s code. It measures 27.5 cm (l) x 10.5 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Demonstrating only minor signs of material fatigue consistent with both age and wear, this field cap remains in a near extremely fine condition.
