Germany, HJ. A Field Cap for HJ-Gruppe Hochland

(HJ Sommer-Mütze). A well-preserved HJ field cap, constructed of khaki-tan cotton. The cap is fully surrounded by stylized side walls which are trimmed along the seam with red piping. Pinned onto the lower peak is an enameled HJ insignia, measuring 15 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) and marked on the reverse with a Reichszeugmeisterei (RZM) logo and maker’s code of “M1/100” for Werner Redo, Saarlautern. Stitched onto the left side of the walls is an aluminum edelweiss, marked on the reverse with an RZM logo and maker’s code of “M1/156” for Argentor-Werke, Vienna. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece beige cotton liner, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the sides. The sweatband folds down to reveal an intact RZM label, correctly issued for the HJ field cap. It measures approximately 27 cm (l) x 10 cm (h) when folded on a flat surface. Minor issues consistent with age and wear are evident, and include the removal of an embroidered eagle insignia leaving some stitching and disruption to the base cloth of the peak, but the cap remains in an overall near extremely fine condition.
