Germany, Heer. An Iron Cross I Class Award Group, with Recipient Photo, to a Heer Officer

(Heer Konvolut). A Heer award group to an Officer, consisting of:

1. A 1939 Iron Cross I Class, constructed of brass and silver, consisting of a Cross Pattée with a blackened brass core within a ribbed silver frame, the obverse with a central mobile swastika, the six o’clock arm with a reinstitution date of “1939”, the reverse with a block hinge and banjo-style pinback meeting a round wire catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “15” for Friedrich Orth, Vienna, measuring 43.11 mm (w) x 43.09 mm (h), weighing 21.5 grams, in extremely fine condition.

2. A Black Grade Wound Badge, constructed of blackened brass, the obverse consisting of an oval laurel leaf wreath, joined together at the bottom by ribbon, with a central raised Stahlhelm overlaid by a mobile swastika, on top of crossed swords on a pebbled field, the reverse with a clip hinge and vertical pinback meeting a flattened and rounded catch, the pinback maker marked with Präsidialkanzlei code “118” for August Menze & Sohn, Vienna, measuring 36.80 mm (w) x 44.42 mm (h), weighing 12.7 grams, in near extremely fine condition.

3. An SA Sports Badge, Bronze Grade, constructed of bronzed magnetic metal, the obverse consisting of a circular oak leaf wreath, surrounding a mobile swastika overlaid by a sword, the reverse with an integral hinge and vertical pinback meeting a rounded catch, maker marked “BERNSBACH/SA.”, measuring 46.56 mm (w) x 58.25 mm (h), weighing 18.5 grams, a Type II badge in near extremely fine condition.

4. A ribbon bar for the Eastern Front Medal, measuring 25 mm in length, in near extremely fine condition.

5. A private wartime photo of the recipient, shown in a Heer service tunic and with insignia indicating a rank of Oberleutnant, wearing the accompanying decorations in addition to an Infantry Assault Badge (Silver Grade) and 1939 Iron Cross II Class ribbon, the reverse bearing a handwritten date of “JUNI 1943”, measuring 65 mm (w) x 100 mm (h), a superb accompaniment to an estate find, in extremely fine condition.
