Germany, Heer. An Infantry Officer’s Visor Cap, by Albert Kempf

(Heer Schirmmütze für einen Offiziere der Infanterie). A well-preserved Heer Infantry Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls which are fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the band are trimmed with white wool piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h). Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band is pinned with a two-piece aluminum wreath and cockade, measuring 65 mm (w) x 45 mm (h). The lower edge of the band is flanked by pebbled studs accommodating a chinstrap which is constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in dark grey on the reverse. A mutli-piece beige rayon liner encompasses the interior, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls. The crown retains an intact transparent plastic moisture guard, which bears a maker’s mark of “ALKERO”, indicating manufacture by Albert Kempf, Ronsdorf, above a size mark of “57”. The cap measures approximately 24 cm (w) x 28 cm (l) x 14 cm (h). Moderate soiling material fatigue is visible to the base cloth, the visor stitching has partially detached, and the side walls have been bent resulting in distortion of the overall structure. This Officer-grade cap remains in a very fine condition.
