Germany, Heer. An Administrative Officer’s Visor Cap, by N. Schega & Neffe

(Heer Schirmmütze für einen Offizier und Wehrmachtsbeamten). A Heer Administrative Officer’s visor cap, constructed of field-grey wool. It features reinforced side walls, fully lined on the exterior with a dark green wool cap band. Both the top and bottom edges of the cap are trimmed with green piping, while an additional length of identical piping surrounds the outer edge of the crown. Pinned onto the peak is an aluminum insignia consisting of a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 65 mm (w) x 25 mm (h) and retaining all reverse attachment prongs. Directly below the eagle, the centre of the cap band has an additional insignia in the form of a padded dark green wool backer bearing a tri-colour aluminum cockade situated within a silver aluminum wire oak leaf wreath, measuring 70 mm (w) x 45 mm (w). The lower edge of the cap band is flanked by pebbled magnetic metal buttons which accommodate a chinstrap constructed of multiple rows of twisted and rolled silver aluminum wire. A protruding vulcanfibre visor completes the exterior features, and is finished in black on the obverse and in brown on the reverse. The interior is encompassed by a multi-piece blue-grey rayon liner, while a wide brown leather sweatband surrounds the walls and is perforated across the forehead with ventilation holes. An intact transparent plastic rhomboid moisture guard is securely stitched onto the crown, and covers the gilded maker’s mark of N. Schega & Neffa, Graz. The cap measures approximately 25 cm (w) x 28.5 cm (l) x 16 cm (h). Sporadic material fatigue and mothing is visible to the exterior wool, in addition to minor soiling of the interior liner, but the cap remains in a better than very fine condition.
