Description
Description
(Heer Wehrpaß). Constructed of a field-grey card stock binding with 54 paginated interior pages heavily filled with handwritten and stamped entries, named to “LEOPOLD HOLZINGER”, who served with Heer Railway Engineer Troops, retaining a certified photo of Holzinger in a Heer Enlisted ranks uniform, measuring 10.5 cm (w) x 15 cm (h), demonstrating minor material fatigue consistent with and wartime use, in near extremely fine condition.
Footnote; Leopold Holzinger was born on 19 October 1909 in Hetzmannsdorf (near Korneuburg), Austria-Hungary. He initially entered service with the Austrian Armed Forces on 8 April 1929, and from the Anschluss of 1938 remained in active service with the Wehrmacht. From 6 October 1939 until 9 May 1945, he was assigned to various Railway Engineer units, including Eisenbahn-Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 3, Eisenbahn-Pionier-Park-Kompanie 3, Eisenbahn-Pionier-Ersatz Bataillon 2, and Pionier-Sperr-Kompanie (the latter destroying railways and setting up obstacles to confound the Allied advance into Germany). He saw numerous promotions, including Gefreiter (28 October 1938), Obergefreiter (22 December 1938), Stabsgefreiter (1 November 1942), and Unteroffizier (1 December 1943). Holzinger rendered service in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France through 1940, was taking courses through the spring of 1944, and was the recipient of the Sudetenland Medal. Having survived the war, Holzinger is a notable example of a soldier who served unscathed throughout the entirety of the war.
