The Soldbuch is dated to September 1, 1939. Measuring 103x145mm, fine condition with creasing and scuffing of the cover, and damage to the spine with period repair.

Walter Nickisch was born on September 15, 1900. He joined the army at an unknown time and on August 26, 1939 he served as an Unteroffizier (NCO) in the 1st Company of Eisenbahn-Bau-Bataillon (Railway Construction Battalion) 111. Nickisch was promoted to Feldwebel (Sergeant) on November 1, 1940. He received the War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords on April 20, 1941, the Eastern Front Medal on August 8, 1942, and an unknown grade of the Croatian Order of the Crown of King Zvonimir. On June 1, 1944, Nickisch received his final promotion to Oberfeldwebel (Master Sergeant) on June 1, 1944. At the end of the war, he was held captive between May 5 and July 8, 1945, the day after which he was appointed to the 2nd Company of Eisenbahn-Einsatz-Bataillon (Railway Deployment Battalion) 2, the purpose is unknown.
