Germany, Heer. A Soldbuch & Document Group To Lieutenant Wiard Müller, Metz 1944 Cuff Title

(Soldbuch zugleich Personalausweis). A grouping of documents, including a Paybook and Identity Card belonging to Wiard Müller, issued on 15 April 1942, constructed with a light brown cover showing the national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, below the eagle is the title SOLDBUCH followed by the words ZUGLEICH PERSONALAUSWEIS, contains a total of 24 numbered pages, the inside cover presents a black-and-white photograph of Müller in uniform glued to the page, the following pages contain information regarding Müller’s personal data, military service, clothing and equipment, vaccinations, military hospital stays, and payment categories, the book measures 10.5 cm (w) x 14.6 cm (h), the cover page presents two punch holes alone the edge, presents very mild fraying, and in near extremely fine condition.

An identification disc, with three slots, constructed of zink, the obverse stamped on both sides of the slots with 4 II./ A.E.A. 211 Nr.1522 Gr. A, the reverse unmarked, with three drill hills, measuring 70 mm (w) x 50 mm (h), and in very fine condition. A document granting Armelband Metz 1944 to Müller, signed in pencil by the commander of staff of the 462 ID, measuring 20.9 cm (w) x 6.7 cm (h), and in very fine condition. A Soldbuch protective cover, in red with gold printing, measuring 12.5 cm (w) x 15.9 cm (h), and in near very fine condition. An Ausweis for Schule VI für Fahnenjunker der Infanterie (School for Officer Cadets), measuring 96.5 mm (w) x 68 mm (h), and in good condition. A train ticket from Mölln to Engerhafe, dated 3 May 1945, measuring 20.9 cm (w) x 28.7 cm (h), with several folding creases, in otherwise near very fine condition.

Footnote: Wiard Müller was born on 15 October 1922 in Engerhafe to parents Johann and Else Müller. He received a SA Sportabzeichen in bronze on 12 November 1940. He initially served in the 4th Battery of Heavy Artillery Replacement Battalion II, Artillerie-Regiment 211, located in Düsseldorf, and later in the 1st Division of Artillerie-Ersatz-Abteilung (Artillery Replacement Department) 211 in Aachen. He received the rank of Gefreiter on 1 October 1942. On 29 January 1943, he was transferred to Artillerie Regiment 195, which, at that time, was intended for Russia, attached to the Army Group Centre in the town of Rzhev. On 1 March 1943, Müller was promoted to the rank of Unteroffizier. That same month he was shot and wounded. He recovered from his wounds at Reserve Lazarett Ostrow and received a Wound Badge, Black Grade. From April to May of 1943, Müller moved to Reserve Lazarett Ausburg to recover from nerve and mental illnesses. He was also awarded with an Iron Cross, II Class. Müller seems to have been wounded again and sent to Reserve Lazarett Mölln for bullet wounds. He received a promotion to Wachtmeister R.O.B. (Reserve Offizier Berweber / Applicant for a reserve officers’ commission) on 1 August 1943. Early in 1944 he was again in hospital for tonsillitis. In July, he joined his reserve unit Artillerie Ersatz Abteilung 211. Müller ended the war serving in the Schule VI für Fahnenjunker der Infanterie (School for Officer Cadets) in Metz. He was promoted to Fahnenjunker d.R. on 19 October 1944 and then to Leutnant d.R. on 20 April 1945.
