Germany, Heer. A Service Tunic for a Flak/Artillery Oberstleutnant

(Heer Waffenrock für einen Oberstleutnant der Flak/Artillerie). A well-preserved Heer service tunic for a Flak/Artillery Oberstleutnant, constructed of field-grey wool cloth with a pronounced whipcord weave. It features a turned-down collar which is topped by a layer of dark green wool cloth. The collar is flanked by tabs which are constructed of dark green wool with buckram cores and which are topped by two silver aluminum wire insignia bisected by red threaded tresses, each measuring 40 mm (w) x 70 mm (l). The shoulders are topped by boards which are constructed of red wool with rigid card stock cores, each bearing four bands of interwoven silver aluminum wire piping and pinned with a single gilded metal pip. Measuring 40 mm (w) x 100 mm (l), the boards are secured in place with machine stitching at the seam of the shoulder, and with pebbled metal buttons on the inner edge. The cuff of each sleeve is rolled up to a depth of 13 cm, with the left cuff retaining a piece of stitching to hold it in position. Each breast has two pleated pockets, all closing with scalloped flaps perforated with reinforced buttonholes, in turn meeting pebbled metal buttons. Stitched onto the upper left breast just above the corresponding pocket is an insignia consisting of a dark green wool backer bearing a hand-embroidered silver aluminum wire Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, measuring 100 mm (w) x 40 mm (h). Three sets of threaded loops are distributed over the upper left pocket for the accommodation of a ribbon bar and badges, while replacement loops are also visible on the upper right pocket. The tunic closes with five pebbled metal buttons on the right flap meeting an equal number of reinforced buttonholes on the left flap. The interior is fully encompassed by a multi-piece dark slate-grey rayon liner which transitions into a pinstripe design through the arms. A single pocket is incorporated into the liner at the upper left breast. Unmarked, the tunic measures approximately 40 cm across the shoulders, with an arm length of 58 cm, and an overall length of 68 cm. Minor soiling and material fatigue is visible throughout the base cloth, but the tunic remains in an overall better than very fine condition.
