Germany, Heer. A Krim Shield, Unknown Maker Variant

(Heer Krimschild). Constructed of bronzed magnetic sheet metal, the obverse consisting of a stylized map of Crimea and southern Ukraine, topped by a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, flanked by dates “1941-1942”, affixed to a magnetic metal backplate with a field-grey wool liner and intact black paper backer, unmarked but demonstrating the characteristics of manufacture by an unknown maker as documents in “The Krim Shield”, Sascha Weber, 2009, pages 102-104, the shield measuring 51.84 mm (w) x 61.60 mm (h), some loss of finish resulting in tarnish is evident to the base metal, while at least one prong has broken off of the back of the shield but is retained between the backplate and liner, a scarce variant in very fine condition.
